Courses at Fields and Flocks

From 2026 we will begin offering a small number of hands-on courses here on our smallholding in West Wales. These days are designed to be practical, welcoming, and rooted in real life experience. Spaces will always be very limited so that everyone gets personal attention and the chance to properly get involved.

Tulip Picking and Storing

Spend a morning 9.30 – 12 among the flowers learning how to pick, condition, and store tulips for the best vase life. Includes tea, coffee, and homemade cake. Each participant will also take home a bunch of freshly cut tulips.

Flower Cutting and Arranging

A hands-on Day 9.30am – 2pm learning how to cut seasonal flowers and arrange them into a hand tied bouquet. Includes tea, coffee, nibbles and homemade cake. Everyone leaves with their own arrangement to take home and enjoy.

Chicken Processing

A hands-on day 8am – 3pm covering everything from dispatch to preparation for the kitchen, with a focus on welfare, equipment, and best practice. Includes tea/coffee and lunch.

  • When: End of June 27 – Confirmed Date in April 27 (when chicks arrive)

Couples Smallholding Experience

Our most in-depth experience, 10am till midday the following day – offered to one couple each year. Join us on the smallholding for two days of learning, eating, and living the lifestyle. The course includes practical tasks with the animals, theory sessions, seasonal jobs, and plenty of time to ask questions. Enjoy lunch and dinner with us, an overnight stay in our spare room, and breakfast with homemade sourdough and jam. As a keepsake you will also take home a loaf of homemade bread and a jar of our own jam.
